Originality Guide Ford N Series Tractors |
This Motorbooks Internationalguide was originally printed in 1997 and has always stood on the N-News bookshelf next to our other favorite Ford tractor books. (Long time author and contributor Bob Pripps has authored most of them!) But this Originality Guide stands out because of its wonderful color photographs and side-by-side comparisons of specific parts and pieces of the N series machines. Authors Rod Beemer & Chester Peterson make a few errors here and there (at one point, they show a wrench and say it is also a gas gauge) but the majority of the information is sound, credible and extremely useful. There is a short history of earlier experimental tractors and a discussion of the handshake agreement over the 9N – but what makes this book unique are the comparisons of parts and how they changed over time. Information about the radiator cap, an original bumper versus a reproduction and a photo of the different fan blades are all good examples of what you will find in this book. There is also a section on aftermarket items with emphasis on the Funk engine kits and the Sherman transmissions. If you don’t already have this book on your shelf, it should be there. Originally published at $35 – now as a remainder through the N-News, just $14.90

American Farm Tractor & Implement Dealerships |
The history of how tractor and implement dealerships came into existence is the main focus of this nearly 200-page full color ussue from KP Book. From the earliest days of sulky plows and blacksmith’s shops, to the 1910s and 20s when farm related dealerships started sprouting everywhere, author Brian Rukes does an excellent job of sussing out the hows, whens, and whys of it all. Perhaps the most fascinating are all of the old photographs of both dealerships and advertising materials and the ways they were used to draw attention to a dealer or to new equipment. This book originally sold for $25, now through the N-News as a remainder book, only $6.35

Taunton’s Home Storage Idea Book by Joanne Kellar Bouknight |
Taunton Press, publishers of Fine Homebuilding and Fine Woodworking magazines, has been one of my favorites for a long time. (see Volume 23 #2 p18 to read about Taunton Press) In their Idea Book series, a subject is tackled with tenacity through excellent photography and drawings. This Home Storage imprint is an excellent example. From ideas for new, traditional and contemporary houses, to dealing with historic structures, this 180 page, full color soft cover is packed with solutions. The bathroom, bedroom, kitchen, mudroom and closets are all discussed with text and images. Originally sold for $19.95, this remainder is now $9.95 from the N-News.
